We have terrific candidates for our school board election, and I just wanted to put in a word for Dashad Cooper. He’s the only one of the candidates with whom I’ve worked, and his basic decency is clear to everyone who knows him. Great at listening, seeing all sides of an issue, calm and selfless.

This might be the most exciting cultural event in our town this year! Victory Hall Opera is presenting “Gullah Meditations,” a performance of a collection of African-American spiritual songs from St. Helena Island, SC, which are mostly unknown by people outside of that region.

I’ve done a lot of door-to-door canvassing, but I understand not everyone is comfortable with that. But post-carding is a great option! I’ve been writing for Lily Franklin, who’s running for the district that has Blacksburg. She’s wonderful. Thursdays, 5:00-7:00, Ix Art Park by Brazos. Join us!

Trump‘s Big Horrible Bill is going to make tragedies like the Texas flood tragedy more frequent and more severe. The bill cancels weather research, closes weather research stations, and fires staff of the weather service!
