Incredibly disappointed to hear about the degrees in Archaeology and Ancient History being cut at MQ University. So much for doing PhD study in those disciplines. Or finishing the degree.

NEW Analysis of over 3000 human bones from Charterhouse Warren, England, indicates they were massacred, butchered, and likely partly consumed by enemies as a means to dehumanise them, questioning the idea that Early Bronze Age Britain was peaceful.

With many new followers, I thought I should introduce myself! I'm an ancient historian and author of 5 books, including Weavers, Scribes, and Kings (2022). It explores the Middle East from 3500-323 BCE, through the lives of real people--rich and poor, old and young, women and men. Audiobook as well!

Ai Apaec is one of the heroes in Moche religion, often depicted as a powerful figure with both human, animalistic, and supernatural traits. He is said to have performed numerous feats on earth and, like many heroes in other cultures, he also does, descends into the underworld and is reborn.

In art of the Moche culture, warriors are often observed facing off in man to man ritualistic combat.

Each man fought to honour his community and were a symbolic form of an encounter between opposing yet complementary entities which led to regeneration and the start of a new cycle .

In the Andean Worldview, the world above was in constant communication with the world below. These objects were not designed for everyday use. Rather they served a necessary spiritual function, containing drinks and other substances that were needed in rituals and funerary offerings.

Julia the Elder and Julia the Younger weren’t the only Roman mother and daughter duo who had some things in common.

Many years later, Galla Placidia and her daughter both had a bit of a thing for ‘barbarian’ kings!

I loved Gladiator II! It was not accurate by any stretch of the imagination, but it told the story well.
