Also, the idea bugging me was that competition is patriarchal. Is it possible that women are also competitive and seeking rank? It seems to me like women *are* competitive within a patriarchy.

Would women be competitors in a sport in a fully egalitarian society? I think they would.

The older cultures had more equality or more equitable roles for men and women, but I don't know if any "matriarchies" exist. So I shy away from the idea of a matriarchal counter to the patriarchy.

So it was fasttracked via a side-process that was available. It was approved by the Attorney General, Kamala Harris' office. (I think, afterward, this particular loophole was closed.)

Yup, senior care facility that a nonprofit sold to a for-profit company. The process involves community feedback, but the nonprofit, Keiro, got feedback through small community events, rather than advertising a hearing widely, because, obviously, the community would object.
