This remarkable story reminds me of Kekulé’s discovery of the benzene ring’s structure by way of a dream. Something must have been pregnant in the cancer researcher’s mind to make the flower analogy make sense. This story should be front & center of all debates on university humanities funding.

True. But the Students for a Democratic Society drove the left inside academia, where identity/social justice issues flourished and labor/economic issues languished, leading to the rightwing populism Trump exploited. Get both social and economic justice back in everyday life: unions & communities.

I think we should take seriously the fact the people on both the far right and far left want an authoritarian who reflects their views. They of course aren’t considering the fact that they too will eventually lose their freedom.

We may be in for a few decades of authoritarianism across the globe.
