On the House floor, Mason’s Manual quietly guides the process. Since 1935, it’s been the go-to rulebook for 77 of 99 state chambers—ensuring motions, votes & debate are handled with order, fairness & respect. Democracy works best when the process works.

House Republicans have introduced extreme legislation to help overturn marriage equality. Instead of tackling real issues, they're focused on rolling back civil rights—putting families at risk. As supporters of the LGBTQ+ community, House Democrats are committed to fighting against this resolution.

FOIA expansion (SBs 1/2 passed the Senate 1/29 by a wide 33-2 margin) is a winner. Yet, just today, the House Speaker told the media that the FOIA bill is, “dead.” So, should we be content with another press conference, or a commitment to bring forward real transparency bills?

We ABSOLUTELY need to do more to improve the public’s trust of public officials and institutions, but promoting bills that fail to create real transparency while telling Michiganders, “don’t get your hopes up,” about BI-PARTISAN FOIA expansion is political sleight of hand.

Yesterday, I attended the ceremonial signing for “Jordan D’s Law,” which increases protections for kids and vulnerable Michiganders from threats of online sexual extortion. We honor his memory with these bills, ensuring perpetrators of this heinous crime are brought to justice.
