“No predictive model” is telling because it relies on the assumption that predictive models are somehow objective and rational and not, for instance, built within a social system that prioritizes white supremacy. A better qualifier would be “Our predictive models” aka white people.

And to insist that you’re too busy saving lives to care about the lives of the students who attend your university and the lives of those in a war torn region in another part of the world is exactly why people are skeptical of academics.

Hiding behind the perceived apolitical nature of the hard sciences won’t save you. They are coming for your funding regardless of whatever resolution your faculty senate passes.

Many stopped waiting and hoping in 2020. Some did before the first of two impeachments. I did when he published that newspaper ad condemning five innocent young men. We need to be honest about why others still support this incompetent, divisive, lying hypocrite. That is the real question.
