Flashback to earlier this week and my adventure with @ajohnson1.bsky.social to Hadleigh Castle! 🏰

In the midst of writing my monograph, I keep reminding myself that it’s okay to take time to rest, to catch up with friends, & to recharge. The book will get done but not if I don’t work sustainably.

The fun fact of the weekend: to the top left of Five Senses Wheel is a spider in its web and this is one of the first representations of a spider in English art!

Yesterday was a beautifully sunny and warm day to visit the remains of Castle Acre Priory and Castle Acre Castle in Norfolk 🌞 🏰 The audio guide for the priory was so informative and it was fantastic to be able to walk through the site with so few other visitors.

Visiting an(other) @englishheritage.bsky.social site which is the ruin of a monastic site: ahh yes, *checks notes* Henry VIII was here...

It effectively peels back the layers of time to reveal a remarkable woman’s life in early modern England.

While Lady Bacon’s male family members are perhaps the best known – particularly her son Francis – it is Anne’s life that remains a marvel even four and a half centuries later.

Recently, I had the pleasure of reading "Lady Anne Bacon: A Woman of Learning at the Tudor Court", courtesy of the University of Hertfordshire Press 📖

Deborah Spring’s "Lady Anne Bacon: A Woman of Learning at the Tudor Court" is a splendid account of the life of Lady Anne Bacon (née Cooke).

Catching up on some Jeopardy episodes and guess who made an appearance in the “cocktail” category! 👑

(Please don’t reply to tell me how wrong the epithet is; I know… I’m just very excited Mary was on Jeopardy!)

I may not appear in the episode itself, but my research helped to inform the episode’s narrative. The episode airs at 9pm GMT on January 24, but will be available on iPlayer from January 3 📺 Here’s (hopefully) to the start of much more!
