There’s a persistent myth that new solar farms don’t really help tackle climate change because panels are “made with coal” and “never pay back” their carbon debt.

This is simply false.

- UN: solar ~8x cleaner than gas, ~19x than coal per kWh
- panels repay CO2 in 4 months; save 57x over life

EV sales in Europe in July vs a year ago. The improvement has been truly astounding. The ground is moving under the car market and too many people aren’t feeling it or, even worse, denying it.

Electrification isn’t new–it has created the fastest growing energy product since the mid-20th century⚡

For over a century, electricity demand has DOUBLED every decade or two since the invention of electric lighting and machinery.

Smart charging is NOT a new idea:

Here's an example from 1912 when smart and off peak charging was suggested as a solution to capacity constraints.

Decarbonisation means electrification, for the most part. And #China leaves the US and Europe in the dust. Here is the disaggregated chart:

🇨🇳 China has decoupled economic and electricity demand growth from growth in fossil generation by rapidly building out wind and solar power.

Fossil power in China is already close to peaking.

🇮🇳 India is now starting to do the same…

Solar is quickly becoming the cheapest source of electricity & will fundamentally change the energy system.

This paper argues that solar will be cheapest source of electricity around the world. Surprisingly this is AFTER including short- & long-term storage costs.
