I'm going to shift into a "what i've learned" format to hopefully pass on some useful info as I grow in my gamedev journey!

Month 33: What I've learned
"Low quality + Great story" beats "high quality + bad story"
This has been the biggest takeaway by far. I was feeling

FIVE HOURS is how long it took me to make a 32 second short 1 year ago.
Today it took me 2 hours to make a 50 second short.
1% better every day.

If I was a a better coder, I probably could have done a lot more in a lot less time with a lot less churn

Workaholism is almost celebrated in our culture, but a lot of people conflate working hard with working well...

Day 6: of One-Ship-A-Day!

Today is the first day that I really felt like I knew what I was doing. Made few mistakes, learned some things like usual, felt like I was in flow.
I was short on time today but pretty happy with how it turned out!

Day 5 of One Ship A Day!

I attempted my own design today and it's definitely not as cool as when I use a reference. Design and modeling skill are definitely two different disciplines.
Oh well, I solved some hard problems and learned. One more day.

Day 3 of modeling a spaceship every day!

This one was hard, inspired by a drawing of Mehrdad Malek from Artstation. It had lots of little details that I'm not skilled enough to replicate yet.
But I did learn how to make this interesting "shell" effect.

Day 2 of modeling a spaceship every day!

Today I learned a lot of tricks: beveling, merging, proportional editing, viewport control, loop select, and more.

Ran into some trouble attempting to model where the pilot sits. It was hard to get the curves right.

Day 1: I'm modeling a spaceship every day!

I'm learning blender for gamedev and starting this challenge to push myself to learn.

Yesterday, I learned the basics of extrusion and materials. Pretty happy with how it turned out!

Making indie games is so hard because the beginning is so easy.
It's easy getting excited about an idea.
It's easy putting the first layers of code down and watching it come together.
But it gets hard once the skeleton is in place and you need to put meat on the bones...
