I do human-computer interaction, mainly, and play music for fun. Well, and a lot of other stuff. But HCI is useful as a way to find me.
Hey! I wrote an iOS app for singers, musicians, choreographers, and dancers! It's called SongJump, and it lets you loop just specific parts of a song. It also lets you slow down or speed up songs to make it easier to practice. apps.apple.com/us/app/songj... Tell a friend who'd find it useful!
‎SongJump
‎SongJump lets you practice by looping through only the parts of a song you need to hear, again and again. Perhaps you're responsible for verses 1, 2, and 5? No problem. Put in jump points for the beg...

"The cancelation of these awards suggests instead that NSF is willing to apply political censorship of awards under direction from President Trump and the DOGE teenagers"

Canadian Universities: In light of all the foreign PhD students studying in the US and getting picked up and detained by ICE for no apparent reason… we need to offer some kind of PhD Completion Asylum program here in 🇨🇦. Think of all the students terrified that ICE is coming for them…

We tried mass tariffs in 1828, and it crashed the economy. We tried again in 1930, and it crashed the economy.

Third time’s the charm, I guess.

I like to make marmalade. My sister hates marmalade. Sometimes I forget this and send her some anyway. So on the most recent package I sent her (which did not actually contain any marmalade) I made it clear how lucky she was to get so much marmalade. Good job, ChatGPT.

Two really good bits of media I’m enjoying right now. Both are smartly written and well paced. The Pitt on Max (fka HBO) is great medical drama, exciting, compelling watching. Natasha Pulley’s The Mars House (book!) is exciting, feels like it’s written by a smart friend. Great read.

things that I really don't need: an email from my financial institution telling me that in some number of days, my 1099 tax form will be available on their website. yes, i know. you are legally mandated to have it by the 31st. this is not news.

just shut up and tell me when it's available.

I’m fascinated by how Apple Intelligence is so enthusiastically getting it wrong. Like… there’s no mention of $100 in the email; it just hallucinates that. I suppose it’s better than telling me my priority message is the obviously bitcoin scam….

Today I deleted all my tweets, dating back to 2006.

In the course of that I see all my old content float by. And I'm allowing myself a bit of wistfulness at that world that was lost, and the value of a suitably policed, publicly visible, community discussion forum.

Here's to the future.
