The thing conservatives actually believe is that middle class people should not get university educations, which should be reserved for the children of the ruling class. Poorer kids should be shoved down into servile roles rather than compete with the wealthy's children for prestigious ones.
I wrote this already yesterday, but between this, ending financial assistance, and ending research overheads, I'm not sure American parents are ready for the real-real tuition fees.
