The guy in the IT team who gets called in when it’s really broken. AuDHD (pending formal diagnosis). Lib Dem. Gay AF, standing with the T. Board games. Travel. A surprising number of very inconvenient allergies.
I assume that's the cliff edge reduction in the personal savings allowance from £1k to £500 if you pay £1 over the higher rate income tax threshold, and the graph is assuming some income of over £500 from savings interest

After hearing "brace for turbulence" I distinctly remember saying to myself "WTF is he talking about"

That.

That is what he was talking about.

It's much less effort for them to hold a metaphorical gun to the heads of the good people of the country and say "re-elect us or it'll be your fault when Farage becomes PM" in 2028/29.
Basically Starmer and McSweeney looked at how things went for Biden and said "yup, that's how we'll do this".

Because they're arrogant and complacent.
They don't have the skill nor energy to campaign with a positive vision for Britain, and they don't want to be constrained by the fixes which are necessary to protect against future abuses of "the good chap theory of government".

We should abolish Council Tax, SDLT, and Business Rates. Replace them all with an annual land value tax levied against the freeholder.

I’ll be very interested to see if they’re going to run London services to/from P13/14 via Warrington and Earlestown or just bus people to Stockport…

He would make economic policy promises based on how many votes it would get him and then implement decisions which had nothing to do with those promises but were instead akin to what Liz Truss did.

Abolish them.
Keep the majority of the power with the PM, but we should have an elected president whose role is mostly ceremonial but also has an anti corruption and standards in public life remit too.

I'd always assumed that if one were renting a property which was repossessed by a lender then the lender would become the landlord, but that is only the case if it was a buy to let mortage or if a consent to let agreement was made with the lender.

I call out the B2L/C2L thing because in case you didn't know, if a landlord just stops paying their mortgage and there is no B2L/C2L in place then the tenant can be evicted with basically zero notice and the tenancy is nullified. This has happened to a friend of mine and I was outraged by it.
October 30, 2025 at 10:42 AM
Wholesale reform of letting agency regulation, plus life-destroying penalties for landlords who rent out properties without a B2L/C2L mortgage in place (and business-destroying penalties for letting agencies who do not do these checks) should be a priority for the government.

Every interaction I've had with a lettings agency has made me want to scream, and with the passing of the Renters Reform Bill they now represent the largest pile of shit in the private rental ecosystem.

Abolish employee NI, and make the combined income tax bands 29/43/49%; it's a 1/1/2% effective increase but it'll capture NI exempt "income" from things like rental properties

(I will get to this, I promise: my initial post was screaming in to the void because of a passkey-related auth issue on remote VMs but I've now got a workaround and so I'm working on that urgent problem first!)
