Time strips us bare
A layer at a time
Sometimes from the outside
Sometimes from the inside
So we yearn
For something time can't touch
And hope our spark
Will continue to burn
When the layers
Have all decayed
Because that spark
Is who we really are

We navigate through crowds
Of strangers
Quickly calculating
The speed and trajectory
Of a thousand lives
So we can set a course
Through
Ducking dodging
Micro corrections to the path
Invisible
Because we don't belong
In their narrative

To me last night.
"Let's walk together,
Like we used to-
Before you fell in love,
Got married
Raised a family,
grew old and sedentary.
When you were lonely
I comforted you-
When you were lost
I guided you-
Come."
So we walked
As if we'd never been apart

Met at the horizon
During happy hour.
"Don't I know you?" Everything asked.
"You used to be me," Nothing said.
"Unlikely," Everything replied
