Even the way the Australian climate movement treats the Pacific is extractive. You can 'vuvale' and express 'solidarity' till the cows come home: doesn't make it real.
Not in our experience.

Then there’s the historic ICJ Advisory Opinion earlier this year - led by pacific students, civil society and our governments. One cannot overstate its importance at this moment in our history as the Court has made it plain: continuing to expand fossil fuels is incompatible with international law.

…then the landmark Port Vila meeting in 2023 that boosted fossil fuel phase out efforts in every diplomatic, technical, and political forum throughout 2023/24. That sustained pressure and Samoa’s brilliance as chair of AOSIS led to fossil fuels finally being mentioned in a COP decision text.

Unethical. Disingenuous. Extractive. And sadly, typical of the Aussie climate movement & most Global North funders/heads of climate orgs.

Always fundraising off of us, never properly funding us. Then they sit around and wonder why their campaigns still don't work...🙄
