I’m finding grief and grieving are surprisingly fraught. There seem to be a lot of weird unspoken rules. I don’t know quite how to put it because I don’t have a clear picture of it. But I’m feeling myself becoming more guarded and circumspect. Even defensively cynical. I don’t like it.

I’ve been playing #rocketleague pretty well lately (by my standards) but the last couple of days solo queueing has been super demoralizing. People can be real petty and shitty.

I know some people who regularly refer to large swaths of the American public as “riff-raff” and I’m not sure how to explain this but I think it’s contemptible un-American horseshit.
So many people were handed a life but think they built it. And they look with disdain on “riff-raff”.
It’s gross.

Two bits of #rocketleague news. 1) I hit plat 2 in 2s last night, which I don’t think is my peak, but I usually float around gold 3 and plat 1, so that’s kinda cool. 2) I’m getting better at air dribbles, at least in free play. Just scored my first completely intentional air dribble goal today.

Don’t think I’ll buy another Polk subwoofer. Died on me in just a few years, and apparently that’s common. Supposedly I can buy replacement parts for like $180. No thanks.

You know when you go through something hard, but you’re surprised by why it’s hard?
Been through it lately. A lot of people try to help, but wow does it really bring out some wild behavior by some. I don’t know man. I struggle with a lot, but some of you could really do with some self-examination.

Some folks really don’t do well with gray areas. They take postures of certainty and just bulldoze like they have no doubt. It’s upsetting.

I like how modern “capitalists” eschew any sort of social safety net whatsoever, preferring instead to go with “quick learners” who think they can min-max care for bucks. More or less. It’s working out great btw.

So many American institutions are indifferent or hostile to people’s needs in difficult times. People (as people) are wonderful in that regard — many folks drop everything to help. Institutions, on the other hand, can be pretty awful.

The extent to which The Discourse is revolving around how voters are going to feel about X or Y in 2026 or 2028 feels increasingly like denial. It is harder & harder for me to imagine a scenario where Trump remains in office another 3+ years and we have meaningfully free elections.
we are still under the six month mark for a couple weeks and it is incredibly difficult to see how this is sustainable for 3.5 more years

I don’t know why our culture is embracing sports betting. I’m not saying gambling is always and forever bad (it’s not), but we are clearly removing all friction and hyping the “upsides”. Right when social safety nets seem to be dissolving too.

My family and I have been going through some stuff. Playing Clair Obscur has so far been interesting. It has things to say about loss and grief, and it’s been somewhat cathartic to play.
