There are vanishingly few places where an artists' model can work now in Saint Louis and the pay is miserly. it's bad for Art.

Recent drawing, charcoal, red chalk, compressed charcoal, on paper.

The model was extremely muscular and I had a little trouble with that. It was a good learning opportunity and my first drawing since we were hit by a tornado May 16.

19" x 34"

Lately I've been making #StillLife paintings that veer into unreality. Like the U.S.

Scene from a Black Lives Matter protest in 2020.

Donald Trump's orders to shoot protestors in the legs were not sent down the chain of command.

Was this good or bad? Would *now* be happening if Trump had had the protestors shot?

Imponderable.

A 2018 self-portrait in pastel. The paper was exceptionally flimsy

After a couple of week forced break, I had an opportunity to draw from life again.

Saint Louis, Missouri. Hard to count the people but the march stretched about five blocks in pouring rain - and Saint Louis blocks are kind of long. Started at Kiener Plaza with the Arch in the background. Positive responses from those not marching. A good day.

A small still life oil painting reflecting my love of skulls.

It is quite small, about 6" x 6" and is, unusually for me, painted on a wood panel rather than on canvas.

"Lovin' It."

Oil on wood panel.

I gave this painting to an art student who said she loved it.

I'm thinking of doing another from the same photographic source. I believe, but am not sure, that I took the photo at a rest stop heading to Chicago on my first road trip with my wife Jing.

My younger son, age four, before I knew him, reading a book.

I later used this painting as the inspiration for a large woodblock print.

My older son. Portrait with imagination. The gold key was a regular house key. The crenelated wall was a radiator. The background was a memory of the Mona Lisa. The hair and beard were there.

A large acrylic painting.
"Water Protectors."
Based on a great photo - I think AP or NYTimes.
One of several that hang in the reception area of my law firm.

The top of my dresser. I've been wanting to paint it. I don't have to work this weekend, so am looking forward to painting my new still life set up.

This painting took the longest of any of my works from start to finish.

Live model at the studio of the great Henryk Ptasiewicz, 3+ years ago, using oil pastels. A few months ago painted over using oil paints. Added some imagination for background, including dragon.

The straw that broker this camel's back.

Today I cancelled my subscription to the Washington Post. Jeff Bezos's surrender to the Fascist machine makes it impossible for me to continue.

Hopefully, the journalist @karaswisher.bsky.social's efforts to buy the Post succeed and I can resubscribe.

Tall canvas in English Red.

Set up for a new painting.

This will be a combo still life and imaginary seascape.

Tall canvas. Middle half will be this still life. Top quarter transitions into the open seas. Bottom quarter transitions into the sea bottom. Objects are themselves and aquatic symbols.

Canvas is English Red.

Father was an enthusiastic photographer.
The older boy was my friend in middle & high.
Grew up to be an enthusiastic photographer.
He posted this photo on FB in 20 & 17.
I loved the photo.
Painted the painting.
Gave it to him because:

2012 Balloon Glow in Forest Park in St. Louis.

I lived downwind of the park in those days and some years the balloons would fly over our house or even land on our street.

Photographed in Morocco, a lovely country. The history was long, the people friendly, the landscape awesome, and the veggies to die for.

I must have been the most Jewish-looking guy there. Everywhere we went, people showed us the historical Jewish sites. So cool.

I want to go back.
