I’m so sorry to learn that we’re lost Marianne Faithfull. I can’t say I knew her well, but I once spent three memorable days performing and traveling with her. I just jotted down a few remarkable memories. tonefiend.com/uncategorize...

I was a teenage early music nerd. (I came THIS close to an academic musicology career.) I loved revisiting my medieval faves decades later, playing note-for-note from 14th-c. manuscripts, but using modern instruments. #medieval #medievalmusic #earlymusic #guitar

Love this! The original version of “Mack the Knife” (“Die Moritat von Mackie Messer”) as sung by its composer, Kurt Weill. With bonus hand sharks!

Here I’ve mostly posted about horror novels and cats. But I’m mainly a musician who also has a line of guitar pedals. I thought we’d have to discontinue my fave, the Cult Overdrive, ‘cause we couldn’t source more antique germanium transistors. But we found ‘em, and it’s in stock! 🙏 #guitarpedals #fx

It’s been over a year, but I still miss our furry pal — the sweetest asshole ever to draw breath.
Kaiju, with the 🥛 intended for my coffee. I really miss this little asshole. #blackcats #catsofbluesky #cats

@jeffvandermeer.bsky.social Absolution, fuck me! The Area X series was already my fave weird/horror fiction of the century, even more so now. Stellar literary merit, profound psychological depths, and utterly unique creepiness. Bravo squared!

Absolution, the fourth novel from @jeffvandermeer.bsky.social Area X series, is sublime weird/horror fiction. Stellar literary merit, vast psychological depth, and utterly unique crepiness. (The first Area X book inspired the film Annihilation.) Bravo squared! #horror #horrorfiction #weirdfiction

My musical colleague Ursula Blind wrote a funny song about displaying love and patience over the holidays, whether the recipients deserve it or not.
“Thanks,” by Ursula Blind

This #Thanksgiving it might be a little harder to love all our neighbors. Here’s a song about finding a few crumbs of common ground — even if it’s only #pie crumbs. #musiciansky #musicsky #indiemusic

Many posts lately on “scariest movie.” Well, Hereditary — duh! But nothing has ever terrified me like the jump scare in the original House on Haunted Hill, which I watched on TV as a kid in the 1960s. Camp today, but sheer horror then. Why is it so scary? The framing and composition, I think.

I’m new here, and I see it’s common for recent arrivals to introduce themselves. So I’m a musician and writer from San Francisco. I’ve played with a lot of famous people and labored for decades in music journalism. I’m ambidextrous, but my views favor the left. More: www.joegore.com

And I thought I was soooo cool for using an old-fashioned safety razor. (No, I didn’t have a lot of hair on my finger. Just clumsy.)
