Generalizing: 1950s-60s lots of guardrails and expectations kept people polite; 1970s-80s people felt more free to disagree, even be obnoxious; 1990s-2000s toxic disagreements were easy as we connected online.

I live in the area the complaints are coming from, but I can't say we've noticed any issues with asphalt fumes, and we've been sleeping with some windows open. I'm sure it's weather related as to where the fumes go or concentrate in.
