I wish it wasn't like this: I make tech for the conference industry (not eposters, I hasten to add!), and it can literally take years to close some deals, but I understand why organisers are so cautious.

On risk aversion: conferences are high profile, so innovation = risk that things to go wrong very publicly. And events are stressful enough already.

Also the annual cycle: organisers spend most of the year planning and delivering, and maybe 1 month of the year reflecting, reviewing & innovating.

There are some good options out there to make posters more engaging (eg ltb.io/eposters/), but a few factors stymie new tech adoption at conferences: risk aversion; only one opportunity to innovate every 12 months; budgets; different hosts/organising teams every year...
