She/her, crazy, cat lady (as space permits), neurospicy shiny fact magpie, hEDS haver and explainer, reluctant Florida resident, pragmatic pinko-lefty late Boomer Whyte crone. ("Wait, I'm GenX+, I'm a late bloomer!”), mostly women oriented cis Bi/Ace-flux
I do love those sneakers. ♥️

I too have a wide and weird resume (and AuDHD). All of it has been useful in some way or other. I regret none of it. It's been an interesting life.

I realized the sweatshirt I was wearing yesterday was 26 years old.
It's a good sweatshirt. Got it at Sequoia National Park, which is why I know exactly how old it is. 🙂

I had to get a new phone. Because the battery in my not-all-that-old one went bad.
I tried replacing it. A new battery was around $20 + new case sealing tape.
I couldn't get the old battery out. It was solidly glued in place. I was afraid I'd crack the phone getting it out.
This is just Wrong.

We still aren't certain about that. We may simply be looking at the wrong things to reach that conclusion. It's one of those "Research is ongoing" things.

*Per my Linguistics 101 text, unlike communication systems, true languages have the features of productivity (creating new meanings from basic units) and displacement (able to reference not-here,not-now, never was-is-will-be, i.e. past, future, imaginary, conditional, etc.)

OK, not food but an association with something positive. "Treats" don't have to be edible.
And yes, cats do recognize human noise sequences; mine know "kibble, gooshyfood, treat-treat, Churu"(definite trend going there 😁)
It's not the same as language* but it's certainly communication.🧵

That is where I picked it up, yes. 🙂

People who are seriously into anthropomorphizing their pets will do it with or without communication buttons. It's not going to make a difference.
And people who find it fun to interact with their cats enjoy them. I don't think it's likely to make people any more delusional than they already are. 🙂

*Welfare=Human Services. It didn't become a pejorative word until after Lyndon Johnson's Great Society reforms were implemented .
November 19, 2025 at 1:49 AM
We did. It was originally formed as the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare.*
They broke off the Department of Education as an independent Cabinet level department in 1979.
November 19, 2025 at 1:49 AM
Within my lifetime it was the Department of Health, Education, & Welfare. (Welfare was renamed Human Services because GOP did a great job making it a smear word by painting anyone receiving direct government aid as a freeloader. Well, except SS & Medicare, that was "insurance" you paid into.)

My cats absolutely know the words "kibble" and "gooshyfood". They recognize those particular combination of sounds. They were and are _extremely_ motivated to listen for them. 😁
November 19, 2025 at 1:20 AM
My cats already communicate with me, they know what behaviors get them what they want. This system makes those associations clearer and more specific.
A communication system, -- which this is -- isn't a language, nor does using spoken words make it a language. But it's a fun & useful system.

There's likely some overinterpretation and confirmation bias, yes. But it's essentially behavioral conditioning, like most training for companion animals. Why wouldn't it work?
They learn if they push a certain button, it makes a funny noise, and they get what they want plus maybe a treat.

Acetaminophen isn't an NSAID. Ibuprofen is.
Acetaminophen is safe for kidneys but causes liver damage if overused.
My kidney damage wasn't from NSAIDs, it was from proton pump inhibitors.
All meds are a risk/benefit calculation.
He may be a bit biased as all his patients have damaged kidneys.

"What's going to get us out of it?"
Um, a complete breakdown of safe and timely air transport, maybe?
You can only push "essential personnel" so far before they start collapsing.
They're already collapsing.

They desperately want enough violent protests so they can invoke the Insurrection Act, call up their goons and the National Guard, declare martial law, and suspend elections to stay in power.

The opposition has not, to date, obliged them. So they keep upping the cruelty level in provocation.
