Good tip. I like that you could use it during meetings without being obvious about it.

Getting any sort of exercise as a working parent in the dark months as you start to get older is a minefield, honestly.

Anyway, it's on my mind because I just got a package containing a new stepper machine that I could potentially use when it's cold and dark to get some steps in the house. It's likely more cushioned than the floor plus the angle of my feet on it should help. Who knows.

If running does turn out to make it worse I might have to ditch the step count target entirely and take up cycling. I'm 45 and getting advised that some sort of high impact exercise is a good idea to prevent bone density issues. Since I've had my share of fractures, keen to avoid that.

I have been running again. I'm using heel pads to reduce the impact, and building it up slowly. But I am running on pavements because it's November and anything that isn't paved is sodden, muddy and slippery round here. So it might not help, who knows.

The reasoning is that I stopped running for about six months. It was fine before I stopped, but while I was stopped I started getting many more of my steps by pacing the floor instead of going outside. The pain started some time about three months ago.

I used to think all poets were Byronic
Mad, bad, and dangerous to know.
And then I met William Carlos Williams.

Why on earth can I manually add a walking activity but not get credited for any steps? Can't the system make a guess from a time/distance estimate?

Okay, rant over. It's a small thing but an annoying thing.

I have a minor foot injury which means my usual "getting my steps by pacing the floor" tactic probably isn't wise, and it's November - I don't want to go out for a second random walk to hit my (essentially arbitrary) step target.
But I don't want the record to show that I didn't get my steps either.

West of Glasgow the M8 has massive roadworks just now too, there have also been a couple of accidents that have caused jams and diversions - no idea if that was what you saw this morning though.

We actually have a room not unlike that 😂

It's like, sure, an international journalist is hypothetically going to do a think piece on me? Sure, I can imagine that. But imagining me considering books like a prop or status symbol and intentionally picking them to say "check me I'm cultured" rather than "this was awesome!"?? Yeah, no.
