the new CBS Evening News is interesting:

+ it’s 60 Minutes/PBS Newshour-lite
+ i like the simplicity of the graphics & return to the old music
+ the “roundup” summary of headlines could be longer
+ not sure if the format will work for big breaking/developing news

will be curious to see more

curious to hear from health/science journos:

where/who are you turning to for reliable sources, info, etc during the communications pause from health agencies?

and do you expect to rely less on government sources in the near future?

who expected the first viral “resistance” moment during the second term would come from an episcopal bishop?

her courage reminds me of a sermon i read yesterday from MLK Jr., who quotes an old proverb: “fear knocked at the door. faith answered. there was no one there.”
Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde to Trump: "I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now. There are gay, lesbian, and transgender people in Democratic, Republican, and independent families, some who fear for their lives ... and the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals"

this is far from the most important thing today, but the new admin seems to be using instrument serif as its primary typeface, which i see as a "trendy" choice

ugh this sucks! STAT is an essential outlet
Welp, the news is out. It's a gutting day for us at STAT with layoffs of 11 treasured, hardworking colleagues. I can't say this loud enough: Please subscribe/support the journalism you trust. Science writing jobs are going extinct at a time when we're needed most. www.bostonglobe.com/2024/12/09/b...
Health and medicine publication STAT News lays off 11 employees - The Boston Globe
The decision to lay off STAT employees comes after years of growth, including a significant expansion during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
