Gotta love The Onion. 🙃
Goddammit. The Onion once again posted an article in which a portion of the artwork came from an AI-generated Shutterstock image. This article was over a month old and only a portion of the image. We took it down immediately. We'll be more vigilant. I'm personally sorry and I'm working on it.

@bcdreyer.social but if you *really* must get rid of the icon… there may be a way. It’d entail editing/deleting a resource file (I’d go with editing it to be transparent). Right-click on the app, select “Show Package Contents”, muck around Microsoft Word. app/Contents/Resources & you may find it!

@bcdreyer.social hopefully you don’t mind losing autosave to OneDrive in the process, though, because that’s an obvious and inevitable side effect. But I suspect you’re not trusting MS with your data in the first place, amirite?

@bcdreyer.social re. your issue w/ Copilot, I suspect it’s technically impossible to get rid of the icon; but using Objective-See’s LuLu to block Word from phoning home after activating your Office365 subscription/SN, while not ideal from a cosmetic standpoint, should be functionally equivalent.
