We have a new lab photo. Busy times in the Delas Lab!

Last month Maria and Shaun joined us to start their PhDs.

Learn more about our research and our team: delaslab.com

We will be recruiting another postdoc next year so have a look through our recent work and get in touch if you are interested.

We made it to Gastrulation Reloaded!

We didn’t think we’d be late but we had to go in circles around the block. I would not have thought any other institute would be harder to get into than The Crick!

Very excited to be on my way to the National Genetics Course in Madrid @segenetica.bsky.social

It is always very special to go back to Spain for scientific reasons. It would be hard to convince uni student Joaquina of what would come.

Impressive (aka intimidating 😂) line up

Best part of the job: visiting other places and discussing fun science. This time thanks to @sonnenlab.bsky.social

Last week I had the immense pleasure of hosting @justuskebschull.bsky.social at the @lmcb-ucl.bsky.social.

It doesn’t get any better than listening to great science from a great friend, and seeing old and new colleagues interacting.

On my way to Erlangen!

Looking forward to presenting our work on cis-regulatory strategies for developmental patterning, meeting lots of new people and catching up with friends.

My now traditional annual Galette des Rois. By someone that does not bake (yeah, true, this does not count as baking) and is not French 🤷‍♀️

Finally… Dec: Our lab was so kindly invited to more holiday parties that we could attend. We had a great time with the Lloyd, Riccio and Bell labs on their annual British countryside frosty walk.
Our lab space also got refurbished … but that’s a 2025 highlight when it’s all back up on the shelves!

Oct: The best part of this job: Seminars! I hosted @arnaudkr.bsky.social and my again colleague @kenzoivanovitch.bsky.social and I was hosted by my former colleague Vicki Metzis and visited the @mrc-lms.bsky.social myself.

Such wonderful days of discussing science!

July: I attended a Company of Biologists workshop for the first time (Building to Understand: The Constructionist Approach to Studying Gene Regulation).

Such a great experience. Every ECR that sees a relevant one should apply!! www.biologists.com/workshops/

The summer is full of #NewPI highlights. Marcella gets her firsts colonies! And I order boxes instead of units…

May: The Delas Lab officially starts. I think the highlight here is my first successful order! The summary of starting a lab is that it’s ….slow…

April: I attended my first BSDB (I know, embarrassing) and we uploaded the work I was presenting to biorxiv during the conference itself! Also first last-author pre-print (www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...) .

To many more both BSDB and pre-prints!

Jan: Special seminar invite to the Institute of Biomedicine in Valencia (next to home). Made it into a weekend and grandma was very excited. She saw me arrive with travel cot, car seat, pram and baby late at night and said “oh, dear, I hope they pay you very well to do this”. I laughed so hard.

For #FluorescenceFriday we have a developing spinal cord (🐭) image from our lab - and this one is special because it's sectioned, stained and imaged all by our master student Zoe 😍🧪

I guess it’s official! Holiday season is coming!

Back home after a couple of wonderful days in Santander. Amazing science and… look at this!

Thank you @radaiglesiaslab.bsky.social for the excuse to visit and congrats to the new Dr Mariner Fauli

We took our *first* lab picture!

You can get to know us on the now updated website.

Bear with us while we get some cool science done 🧪🧫🔬👩‍💻. It's slow but it will happen 💪

Starting a lab is not easy.

Having supportive colleagues around make all the difference.

Colleagues that read your grants are great, colleagues that explain you how to get reimbursed for things are genius.

But colleagues that 3D print you Millenium Falcon falcon holders are just heroes.

This is too good to be an accident 😂 surely they’ve coordinated to get this place going

It’s been such exciting times in the very very new Delás lab. So glad I can share here now!

We had our first journal club - yes, don’t laugh. It was exciting. Everyone (undergrads to postdoc) presented a section and discussed. Starting is hard but moments like this make all the difference!
