I think that phenomenon exists within manga artists and manga fans as well. So it applies to the visual art aspect and not just writing

I have heard some people say the reason the art in superhero comics in the 60s and 70s was so good is the artists learned how to draw real people first, and in the 90s it started to fall off because the artists learned to draw exaggerated versions of comics they read growing up. lol
