Jill of all trades - artist, web designer, R+ horse trainer, beekeeper, farmer, draftsperson, renovator, gardener, cook and photographer. Happily retired.
Some photos from this week, a beautiful pink sun coming up outside my bedroom window. Gleta (Icelandic horse) and her pretty dun stripe and tail. The last photo is Gord inoculating maple logs with Shitaki mushroom spore. We will also have lions mane and chestnut for many years with 22 logs.

Merry Christmas!

I’m not much of a baker. I can bake, I just find it’s too time-consuming and I always gain a couple of pounds because I have no willpower. But I’m doing some Christmas baking today - shortbread and molasses cookies. I have an awesome collection of cookie cutters for someone who doesn’t bake.

Here is Bear, on guard duty at our farm keeping the coyotes away.

Geez, I still have the tiller on the tractor instead of the snowblower, and I don’t have my snow tires on the car yet.

Stormy weather on the farm. Rain, thunder, lightning, hail, rainbows, and red skies - plus a tornado warning in November. All in the space of an hour.

The front yard looks gorgeous today, it’s my favourite time of the year. The garden is done, and I’m bringing in the last of the squash.

This is buddy, a senior German Shepherd that two guys tossed out of a truck on the four lane section of Highway 50. He’s had a rough day but he’s at a shelter now and another nice lady called the police and reported the incident.

I’ve spent so much time in the kitchen lately processing food from the garden. I have a crazy amount of tomatoes and most of them are going into the oven to make roasted tomatoes with garlic, basil, and olive oil. It’s fantastic as a spread for toast, or pizza, or as a base for pasta.

Cefiro has 3 mares as company. A section of this track winds through the forest.

My two horses were moved to a new track yesterday.

My handsome boy Cefiro. He has been sick with some skin issues, but is improving now. 18 year old Paso Fino.

I brought my horses into the arena yesterday and just played with them for a little while. What a lovely spot when the snow is 4 feet high outside.

Machines are the answer. I am a small senior, but I have a powerful tractor. I cleared snow for 2 hours today.

The deck is disappearing.

It is a gorgeous sunny day here in Mono, -4C and windy. I am just drinking my coffee and then I will be out with the dogs and the tractor to clear snow. Everyone should own a tractor, they are infinitely useful and fun to drive.

Well, it will be a long wait at the UHN Toronto Western hospital while Gord gets his replacement implant for his deep brain stimulation, but I found a cozy spot with my iPad, wifi and a coffee.

I wish Bear would sleep in once in a while, he is up every day at 5am wanting to go out. You can’t say no to a Great Pyrenees - he will chew on the metal door handles, bark till your ear drums burst and leave claw marks on the door 6’ up.

I believe that Canada is the best country in the world to live in. I speak as a woman who has lived in the USA, Germany and Canada, and travelled to more than 25 countries. The USA in its own way is a great country but I will never agree to join it. Let’s just be neighbours.

Now that I am retired and the horses are boarded out, I am experimenting with cooking vegan food. I bought a few great cookbooks that I had seen in the library first, then I had to source all the odd ingredients, & now I am trying the recipes. Home style Cooking, Bred, & Grain Power.

Betty finally understands the spin voice cue. She was a feral beach dog till she was 5, & is the most difficult animal I have ever trained. I have to capture most behaviours as she doesn’t like it when I come too close. So luring the spin doesn’t work. Sit, bow, spin and target is what she can do.

These two little Icelandic mares are so cute, they look like stuffed toys.
