An interesting thing about this dynamic is that it has existed in software engineering for decades already. Consider the way many people rip on javascript. I know folks who say the whole language is sloppy madness. JS experts dont care and they build amazing things anyway.

Harlow Giles Unger is such a huge fan of Monroe that, in his biography of Monroe, he said that Adams, Jefferson, and Madison were "mere caretaker Presidents" next to Monroe.
I am aware of no other historian that would say such a thing! I bring it up whenever anyone mentions Monroe 🤓
