Half my discussions with people about my research usually goes as follows:

Them: "So you're trying to reconcile doing social research using the framework of a philosopher [Ranciére] who hates sociology?"

Me: "Yeah"

Them: "Is It possible?"

Me: "I hope so. I'm already doing fieldwork".

Two episodes into The Mirror & The Light and I love its sorrowful weight. We’re fortunate to have not just those three novels, but also this dramatisation - a masterpiece in its own right. How unjust that Hilary Mantel isn’t here to see it.

Just finished 'The End of Eddy' by Édouard Louis. Along with 'Returning to Reims' by Didier Eribon, this autobiography attentively captures the internal and external conflict and violence experienced by working-class LGBT+ kids attempting to peer and travel beyond their side of the class barrier.

I finally got around to reading 'The Underground Current of the Materialism of the Encounter' by Althusser. My initial reaction: a much more refreshing and interesting read compared to his earlier works.
