“The free world” was a term first used in the 1930s for anti-fascist nations, and after he defeat of fascism in WWII to distinguish the U.S. and democracies from Soviet Russia and other tyrannies. As it came to seem corny in the 60s and 70s, its use plummeted. Time for a revival?
