In west Texas, all the streetlights are red. All the porch lights too. It protects the birds who fly at night by starlight. People talk about "just create an emergency fund!" in all these finance videos, which assumes you aren't literally experiencing emergencies 2-3x per year. If you are having multiple emergencies a year, no matter how hard you plan, you will continue sinking.

It says a lot about the power of the financial lobby that we are surrounded by gurus who advise us on credit card debt, but no guru says ”you know, maybe the government who works for a us actually should set a hard limit of 8% interest on all credit cards and consumer debt vehicles.” #debt #finance

i found a place where a drywall panel opens like a door, and theres this huge tunnel between the walls, dropping below the windows. I can see in from electrical boxes, lots of knees. thing is, the window depth is eight inches. the tunnel is three feet. it smells of death. There’s wind. #weirdlit

Still, the nightmares come, years later. I close my eyes and the bad times return. the threats and manipulations and screaming and violent outbursta and my son terrified exhausted and confused, too young to understand and too scared to say anything.
