It just happens to be the whiskey I usually keep around for mixing, so it ends up in lots of traditionally bourbon based drinks for me.

Somewhere between 2002 and 2005 (based on where I lived at the time) there was a no name, single location movie rental place near my apartment. It had a copy of The Gate 2 on Betamax on the shelf.
I was kind of bummed because I love The Gate but had no betamax player.

Interesting that this popped up in my feed. I grew up in Cedar Rapids and Iowa City, but haven't lived in Iowa in over 20 years and don't think I have mentioned it on here.

Seeing your posts are a relief to me. Many of my long time tech "gods" are all in on LLMs. My employer is all in on LLM all the things.
But I can't stir up the same excitement. It is a tool built by people. It definitely has its uses. But we don't need to base our entire livea around using them.

5/ currently pushing back a bit... I will automate things and make it so tuat teams can safely set up and manage their own infrastructure easily so that I can go back to doing my main job. But really, the responses I get are that this is not what anyone wants.

4/ intended to just work tickets setting up AWS services because no one else has learned this stuff while what I was hired to do and spent a month or two working on is being restarted and given to my previous employer's first choice for everything.

3/ then thanks to restructuring due to basically doubling the company size and addition of skills allowing to do things better, that has been taken from me.
I now lead all the shit no one else wants to touch (ops) because I happen to be good at it as well.

2/ whole company shut down and got hired by a client I had worked with for years on 2 projects, 1 I lead and designed all infrastructure and software architecture. I was to lead building the next phase of that. I wad thrilled. As a shop for hire, I rarely got to take something from useable to great.

I never ask for it, but sometimes it is Walk This Way and then I'm like "ok, I guess we'll do this for awhile"

I'm not complaining, though. Since they are evil, vile people, I'd prefer that they also be incompetent. Competent, evil people scare me.

2/ in all cases I would have to drive farther to a train or bus, which would then in all cases for a train and many for a bus, not drop me off within walking distance of mu office.

1 /In theory I agree. In reality, not so much. It is not feasible in most cities as things currently are and would take years to decades per city.
In my current city (will ignore pasy ones) I have lived in 3 homes, worked in 7 buildings.
