I'm a writer, high school teacher, father, husband, and a fan of speculative fiction in all its forms. I've been a cook, an IT in the Navy, a custodian, a server, and now a teacher for six years. Interested in many things.
Short series idea: Show called "Previously On" in which the entire show is just a longer show's Previously On segments, but that's the entire show. It tells a complete story with character arcs, but it looks like the "last week on" part. Could never work.

Proud day in the Franklin household! Our oldest daughter, Charlie, is going to read A Christmas Carol to her sisters on Christmas Eve. It’s been a tradition in our family since my dad was a child. We’ll help her, but she’s been practicing daily for a couple of weeks. A big moment!

Remember, kids, if Santa asks you whether you’ve been naughty or nice this year, you should always say, “Am I being detained?”

It bugs me when people say entomology when they actually mean etymology.

Got so caught up reading Fahrenheit 451 with my freshmen that we almost missed the bell. It's a feeling of connection I've been missing for a while. And the yearbook students solved a problem that I'd spent hours trying to figure out in a few minutes. It was a rare good day. I can breathe today.

Sure do wish movies had a "don't touch the remote" audio option where it played all sounds in a range where I can hear them at a desired volume but never have to worry about blowing out an eardrum for the action scenes or crank it up for soft dialogue.

Ugh, this depression is sucking big time. First time in my life. My poor bipolar wife has to deal with this all the time. How do people do this? Like a drained battery. Brushing my teeth feels so daunting, like more effort than not-depressed me felt about mowing our acre yard with a push mower.

In a writing slump, so listening to @chuckwendig.bsky.social's Damn Fine Story narrated by the great Patrick Lawlor. Already working! Sometimes, just a reminder that there are people who do this, who push through, who make it work, helps so much. Great advice with examples!

Hannah Yang's "Bird-Girl Builds a Machine" in @clarkesworldmagazine.com uses second person POV beautifully and with purpose. The story builds to an ending that then requires a reread/reevaluation in the best way. Exceptionally crafted story. Loved it! clarkesworldmagazine.com/yang_11_23/

Watched @sff180.bsky.social's yearly SF preview, and 2024 looks like it's going to be a rich year. Or poor, if you're my bank account. About to preorder Womb City by
Tlotlo Tsamaase for my Xmas present (my wife knows to just let me pick the book for her to buy), and several others bookmarked!
