Listening: IQ; trying to read the bookclub pick, Artemis.I’m struggling with a narrator who is a woman from Saudi Arabia sounding like an American man.Goliath’s Curse:it looks like we are all doomed, but it’s entirely natural. I’ve also been spending some time this week working on the sequel to COG.

Here we go! Third day of the Rugby Literary Festival starts here! Did really well yesterday - it was great to meet people, even if some of them were my school students going “Look! It’s Sir!” Why not come on down to Rugby Central and pick up some signed books, and do the Story Trail for families!

I’m in a weird limbo at the moment with regard to books and publishing. I’m hoping something will happen soon that I can announce. In the meantime, please come along to the Rugby Literary Festival on Friday, Saturday and Sunday! I’ll be there.

In Leicester to see the wonderful IQ in concert. Some time on my hands so I was dragged screaming into Waterstones and forced at gunpoint to buy a book. I was so scared I bought two. Then obviously I needed some sugar and caffeine to steady my nerves. Prog rock coming soon!

Paid a visit to Barter Books in Alnwick. Two awesome purchases. I’m drawn more to non fiction these days, so these two are very interesting: true story of a man living amongst deer for 7 yrs; true accounts of courts martial in WW1 (this may be research)… ;)

I’ve had Cormac McCarthy’s final book since it came out but not found the right moment to read it. The entire book is interviews between a patient and her psychiatrist. This covers not only a character’s life but mathematics, philosophy and literally the meaning of life and death. Wonderful writing.

My review of Thank you for the Days by @danbrotzel.bsky.social - it’ll make you laugh, cringe and maybe just tear up a little bit…

Always a thrill to see my book on shop shelves. Here it is in Waterstones Piccadilly.

Unbound/Boundless is now insolvent. No more publisher in either form. But the books still exist. We authors still exist. As part of my reversion of rights, I have 100 of these available. DM me for info, but a copy can be yours for the price of postage. No catch. Just tell everyone how good it is!

One of my A level students bought me this is a thank you/ goodbye present. It’s so good that I’m never going to write anything again and go and live in a hole. @deadinkbooks.bsky.social

Well, here’s my 4 from 1984… Powerslave is their best album by far.

“What perfect albums came out when you were 16?” I’m taking this as the year I turned 16, so… Despite studio tinkering, Real to Reel was a superb live album following the less than perfect Fugazi. Also THE BEST iron Maiden album.

Just kicking back with beer and the Steven Wilson mix of the one of the greatest albums by one of the greatest bands. I’m transported back to being 17 again when this came out. There’s such warmth and detail in this mix. Some albums just have a special place in memory and the heart.

What’s yours?

I like this time of year. We teachers don’t get many thank yous, and most students don’t bother or can’t afford it, so a verbal thank you is more than enough. But it is nice to get this sort of thing…

This is me today. Come on down if you’re in the area!

My first event since having my rights reverted back to me. And it’ll probably be my last until I have something new out. Feels like a peak and a trough at the same time.

Post a Superman comic that came out the month you turned 15.
