The Wing Commander movie tried to do this. Complete with Jurgen Prochnow and a scene where they shut down power and tensely wait as "depth charges" explode all around their space ship

Earlier today I watched an American commentator (anti-ZM) on France24 seem to lose touch with reality when other panellists rightly said Mamdani’s positions are not radical but indeed only centre-left here in Europe.
"Europeans recognize his vision about free public transit and universal childcare. We expect our governments to make these kinds of services accessible to all of us,” said Verbeek. “We pay higher taxes and get civilized societies in return."
Europeans recognize Zohran Mamdani’s supposedly radical policies as ‘normal’
Critics of New York City’s mayor-elect have said his pledges of free bus service and universal childcare are unrealistic, but in Europe it’s a given

No Joe Dante? Then it's not really a Gremlins movie is it?
During its third-quarter earnings call, Warner Bros. confirmed that it's working on a new #Gremlins movie, with Steven Spielberg producing and Chris Columbus directing. It's due to hit cinemas on November 19, 2027.

Two blocks from each other on the same street (Palmerston). Remember: what is at stake here is if Emily Rose goes under and is converted to residential, going back is nigh impossible—a community amenity lost for good.

We're going to look back so fondly on this Jays team.
But right now I'm just so frustrated.

Spoiler free thoughts on del Toro's Frankenstein:
Every shot is gorgeous and there are some shots that feel like they came from a stylized anime with his use and framing of moving fabric
The pacing and act structure is operatic. It has a sedate middle act and tightly focused interpersonal finale

BREAKING: Pope Leo XIV is set to effectively disband Opus Dei in the coming weeks.
This would be the most sweeping internal reform of his pontificate — and a dramatic continuation of Pope Francis’s legacy.

NEW: Pope Leo Set To Break Up Opus Dei
If Pope Leo does indeed approves a plan that effectively dissolves Opus Dei’s structure, it would be the most significant internal action of his short pontificate to date.

I went to the opera last night to see Roméo et Juliette. It's really nice to see someone hone their craft and put decades into playing Romeo as a 45-year-old.

Of course Burnside openly admis that cops let people drive WAY too fast on Avenue Rd
Councillor Burnside, a former cop, says when he used to do traffic enforcement on Avenue Road he wouldn't stop drivers unless they were doing 75 km/h or over.
"Maybe that was a little high," he admits. "A little high," agrees Gray.

I'm just finishing up the 2025 Hugo winning The Tainted Cup and as much as I like the idea of a elaborate mystery novel set in a well thought out fantasy setting, it has an overt thesis that troubles me: Imperial bureaucracy, specifically the military and policing arms of the government, are good

It's not puzzling at all. He assumes that it will happen again next election cycle. And then the one after that.
Canada has a unified right and a divided centre-left. The fear of vote splitting is real and unless there is voting reform lining up behind the Liberals seems to be the only option

”It’s puzzling why Carney keeps doing things that alienate his own supporters ... the reason Carney is sitting in the PMO is because progressive swing voters made a strategic choice to lend him their votes — they didn’t lend their vote to appease Trump, impose austerity or roll back workers’ rights“
We knew he was a blue Liberal. But Mark Carney is alienating progressive voters
The new PM's defiant tone doesn't always appear to match his actions.
