“For 236 years, our military has accepted the principle of civilian control of the military. What may seem like an arcane principle to most Americans, is essential to the healthy civil-military relations that drive effective national security decision-making.”

It’s that old adage about not wrestling with pigs!!

I think every situation is different, but letting diplomacy work may be a sensible approach here. Journalists are always fishing for the controversial quote - it helps their exposure. But we shouldn’t always be critical when politicians don’t give it to them.

Of course, but a UK minister saying that in an interview is unlikely to be helpful. Escalating conflict with Trump doesn’t appear to be a recipe for success, IMO. That doesn’t mean you can’t be firm in private.

I listened to your interview with Peter Kyle and think you are being harsh on him. He’s clearly determined not to escalate the situation, which seems sensible and what Denmark is asking EU leaders to do? Him taking your bait wouldn’t be helpful IMO

EVALI was caused by vaping illicit THC vapes cut with vitamin E acetate - nothing whatsoever to do with commercially available nicotine vapes.

“Recent theoretical studies show that unrealistically high vaping temperatures, in excess of at least 700 °C, are required for any significant levels of ketene to form from VEA or other acetates”

“The second issue centers on concerns that real-world vaping power settings do not provide enough energy to produce ketene”

But this study involves vaping and dabbing cannabinoids rather than commercially available nicotine vapes?

Ketane?

I would add nicotine vaping to your list.

This story highlights perfectly why the Govt should keep its focus on helping smokers to quit and not get overly distracted by young people who vape. Anything that makes vape products less appealing, affordable, accessible, enjoyable will impact adults just as much as youth & reduce switching.

How on earth will this be enforced? I put in an FOI request to Richmond Borough Council - in the last 5 yrs they have not issued a single fine or penalty against a retailer for selling vapes to minors. And yet the majority routinely sell to young teenagers. Maybe get this right first???

I wrote a recent LinkedIn article critiquing the bill and other recent announcements - I'd welcome any comments. In a nutshell... 1) keep the primary focus on adults who smoke; 2) implement existing laws before introducing new restrictions. www.linkedin.com/pulse/tobacc...

I wrote a LinkedIn article on this recently, giving my views - I'm afraid I'm not as enthusiastic about it as you, but would welcome your feedback. BTW there are plenty of non-tobacco industry folk like me who are concerned. www.linkedin.com/pulse/tobacc...
