We had a reading group going over some pre-print book chapters in grad school, led by my advisor. One of the most helpful things he said was that the material was new and challenging for him, too. Cuz it didn't feel like that!

There are valid use cases. Think of stress testing online systems with mostly realistic usage patterns. If the patterns are too similar you can get misleading effects so you need to ensure some variability, but being perfectly real isn't a strict requirement
