At least I was able to recruit the kid to hold the flashlight while raking up leaves in the dark tonight. Cleaning up after overnight wind was certainly easier when I was able to fully WFH. But still happy with the new job

Thought I might have adjusted to the kickboxing class after last week's recovery seemed easier. This week, body says not so much. But it's fun and a good chance to practice power against a bag, and I've wanted more cardio anyway

@benwhitelaw.bsky.social One thing I learned from the latest Ctrl-Alt-Speech episode is that ODS sounds a lot like “odious” when pronounced

I appreciate the attempt at accessibility but this design seems insufficient considered

My dad gave me a weather station a few years ago. Seemed like an interesting toy but not that exciting but installed it on the roof.

It stopped reporting temperature last night. With luck just a battery issue and the unit will be ok. But I hadn't realized how often I actually glance at it!

Had to use an escalator emergency stop button for the first time today. That was unexpected. Kid was the best witness and got to give a statement to the police.

Someone fell on the escalator up from a BART/Muni station

This was my last day at my first job after school. It's so weird! Work has been synonymous with that company for so many years. Lots of fun memories, but also excited for what's coming next.

Managed to secure a new job, at a place I'd interned at many years ago. Interns were hired directly, not through a temp agency, and I was able to obtain my old employee id! Now to hope they'll let me use it.

It's always weird seeing tourism commercials for the state you live in. While at home.

My project at work was killed off a bit over a month ago. Our morning sync meeting ended as a result. One casualty? Breakfast. Apparently I used the meeting time to ensure I had food ready in time. And now I keep forgetting to eat until I notice I'm fairly hungry

Enjoying that the kid listens to music beyond the chorus. Actually engages with lyrics, and has started recognizing the occasional humor when classmates clearly have not done so.

Kid read a book about the Rosenbergs recently but read confused that they put Julius on suicide watch prior to an execution. That was a good question.

@mmasnick.bsky.social when looking at your recent Kickstarter (and I have a copy on order), I saw you'd previously backed some OWS earbuds, which were a novel thing to me. I got their v2, and now have a way to listen to your podcasts while out walking. Yay! And thanks.

Finally picked up OWS headphones in an attempt to get myself to listen to podcasts while out walking. Let's see if it works!

I've heard about coyotes in SF over the years but didn't expect to see one just walking down Lombard in the middle of the afternoon. At least it made it across Columbus safely.

My phone rang while I was showering tonight. Thankfully it was my wife, who has a mild fever after a shot and asked for ibuprofen. With parents in socal, even if across the county from the current fires, the ring alone set me on edge.

I always like kron4's new year's eve coverage in the Bay Area. They're not a major network affiliate, and it shows. But they clearly have fun and keep it local, including the SF fireworks.

A karate belt test with a torn calf is not a recommended activity. Thankfully seems to be a fairly minor tear, but it's still a tear.

Wow, @elakdawalla.bsky.social! I ordered from your site last night and I already got a shipping notice!

Kid was talking about the bass like it's not a very interesting instrument (despite playing it). An intro to Les Claypool has now solved this.

@paulkpix.bsky.social What does the floor of the weather forecasting area actually look like at this point? I'm not entirely sure what's a digital overlay now. And how long did you practice before getting pretty good at dodging virtual objects?

Good news about Caltrain ridership. At least on weekends it has apparently surpassed pre-covid levels! The new electric trains really are that much nicer.

Caltrain's electrification project is paying off big-time
Since Caltrain launched its electrification project it has seen major increases in Bay Area ridership.

Managed to ride Caltrain, Muni (bus and streetcar), and BART today. All in service of our intended trip, not just to ride different transit systems.

I'm kinda disappointed that my karate lesson tomorrow evening is only 45 minutes. Not sure how to keep myself from obsessively watching results outside of that.

Got the CO2 sensor to error out today. Let the kid play with dry ice in the sink and then held the sensor in there.
