This is true in my family. I also think they are the people who need simple answers to things, who don't handle nuance well. Dad was an EE and he likes everything to be perfectly logical. It is also why he simply can't understand life experience different than his own.

As someone who grew up in the 70's, I am really conscious of trash. My neighbors, in a very nice neighborhood, don't seem to notice it for the most part. I think we need a repeat of the anti-trash campaigns of the 70's.

I remove trash. Packed out a huge pile of poop bags that had been left at the side of the Twin Falls trail last time I was there. Invasive plants are trickier because you need to be able to recognize them and natives. Otherwise you end up pulling everything.

Not sure what is choking me up more - this awesome video, remembering that David Bowie is gone, or the fact that a corporation gave you rights to this song.

Between the dog and the vacuum my watch keeps warning me that my hearing is at risk. I finally started wearing ear protection. 😂

Mine too. In a frenzy of yelling and more fur released.

They have been doing this all along. Talk about radicalized. A whole generation of kids is going to grow up hating the US.

Not if you happen to be an animal in the road.

OMG. An insane idea that could only come from tech bros who have no actual clue how the natural world works. Research in Chicago demonstrated that even city lighting at night has a huge negative impact on the health of trees. Bird migrations take place mostly at night. People need to actually sleep.

I agree. He seems more stable than Fetterman ever did and his theological takes are pretty well thought out and referenced for a plant. Also the bills he has sponsored in Texas seem pretty progressive. Still Fetterman was/is a huge disappointment.

He was part of the walkout that tried to prevent the new maps. He also has spent a lot of time addressing the threat of Christian Nationalism in a way that some of those white Christians might listen to. His piece on why the 10 commandments shouldn't be in schools was good from that standpoint.

Well I have two parents [both age 92] who went to Catholic schools pre-Vatican II who are excellent readers. Both graduated from college in fact. Mom was a journalism major at a Catholic college who could read in both English and Spanish. I think you are missing a big chunk of history there.

The Catholic Church pre-Vatican II discouraged lay people from reading the bible because they worried about misinterpretation. That changed after Vatican II. Catholic schools absolutely taught reading and were generally, at least in NE US, some of the best schools with the best results.

Makes me think of the big east coast US power outage. Power was out from just south of DC to Rhode Island and the NY news was reporting that that whole eastern seaboard was out.

Not anymore. Back when the people running the space program actually cared about this planet we possibly could. Now we can't. His rockets, which are an environmental disaster, can't even carry the payload he claimed they could. There is a reason in SciFi large rockets launch from space ports.

Taking care of ourselves seem so much harder now when we need to worry about everyone and everything. I found that Insight Timer had some great body scan and breathing meditations that helped me wind down at bedtime. It took a few weeks to kick in but helped some. Wishing you well-being.

Many decades ago, a boyfriend taught me to do a little swerve around larger pot holes if there was a motorcycle behind me to let them know. It isn't that difficult to pay attention to who is around you on the road.

Based on this logic pedestrians should be able to carry air horns. Deafening the population because we give lousy drivers a pass is the actual problem to solve.
