While browsing through my Complete Far Side collection I came across these two cartoons that are basically the same but with different captions. They must have come from the same rough idea/sketch but they are subtly different.

I'd love to know how it happened

If you’re making people feel fear for their safety with only your words you’re already a terrorist. So be honest with yourself, what is your next step?

The President of the United States is going to immediately denounce the murdering of lawmakers, regardless of their political affiliation, right?

Right?

I think there is a rather narrow window of time and circumstance you would need to have been born into to think this is funny.

But I think it's absolutely hilarious

The Byrd Theatre here in Richmond made it onto someone’s “21 Coolest Movie Theaters in the World” list, which is nice

For some reason “The English Patient” has come back into my attention recently. I’ve both watched the film and read the book within the last few weeks or so.

"Fiddler's Neck" is a new term I learned this weekend after observing that every member of the local Symphony's string section had a noticeable mark or injury under their jawline.

I stumbled across this review yesterday: “There’s a Word for That” www.bostonreview.net/articles/the...

I’d like to think I’ll sit down and read a book like this, but I probably never will, even the review was denser than I was really in the mood for.

I am ashamed of the public face of the United States.

This president may speak louder than me but he does not speak for me

I hate that I am reluctant to reach out to my representatives and make my opinions known. But the fact that this is how I feel shows precisely why I need to do it.

My primary issue with the past two weeks is not necessarily the MAGA agenda (though, in my opinion, it has been consistently odious, and I have yet to agree with any of it) but rather its approach.

Democracy is not about efficiency or merely getting things done, those are secondary concerns.

Reposting a comment from Hacker News because I think it's a useful distillation of what was done in Hungary and what Trump is trying in USA :

Can you discuss your understanding of specific actions that are being taking to resist recent efforts by the Trump administration to corrode the norms of our Democracy and consolidate power in the Executive Branch?

Health insurance is such a big stressor for the average US citizen. Getting it, using it, and keeping it are all much harder than they should be; obviously by design.

I recently learned about the term "hypernormalization", which refers to a collective sense of a disconnection between events and societal responses to them (e.g. climate change, or Brexit, or whatever the heck is happening with the USA these days)
