Welsh right-wingers go get some fucking self-respect challenge

Not 25 pages into a new book and Welsh slander already smh

And a few more. All really fucking good.

Rather than contribute to Discourse, I'm just gonna leave these here.

All marketed as litfic (though some have supernatural elements), not a sad boner professor in sight.

I'm not normally a brunch kind of person, but after feeling like crap all week, this is very welcome

This weekend Mum and I went to the Miners' Strike exhibition at Cardiff museum. Very interesting, harrowing in places, and a reminder that the brutality of our current political moment has rarely been far from the surface.

In Welsh mythology, the Cŵn Annwn are spectral hounds commanded by the king of the otherworld.

In "White Shapes in Snow" (New Welsh Reader 125), they show up to wreak revenge on an abuser and his complicit butty.

She's done plenty of killing, though usually in battle or self-defence, but I don't think anyone can deny that Casca deserves to do a murder or two.

Does Blodeuwedd count? I think so -- she may not have struck the killing blow herself, but she was certainly integral to the murder. Created purely to be a wife, she forces her way out of the role made for her -- and if violence is the only means she can imagine, well, look at who made her.

"Light as Air" from the Hidden Villains: Betrayed anthology (books2read.com/u/bzr7zD). All the murder you can shake a stick at.

And finally, a snippet from a current WIP, whose protagonist is (literally) haunted by the lover he failed. Here's the first time our ghost shows up.

There's also "Crumbs", from New Welsh Reader #134. The ghostly children might be creepy, self-abnegation might be the real horror. newwelshreview.com/product/new-...

I've written quite a few things with ghosts. We associate Y Fari Lwyd with Christmas and New Year, but she might also put in an appearance on Hen Galan -- Jan 13th. My ghost story "Grey Mary" is inspired by her and can be read for free: www.patreon.com/posts/grey-m....

Like a lot of people, I still have a Facebook account mainly to keep in touch with the 5 or so people I'd never hear from otherwise, but also, you occasionally see something like this.

(Spotted, it feels crucial to mention, in the comments of an article about the Segway.)

The last two evenings, I've been accompanied on my walks home by an incredibly bright sliver of crescent moon. The picture doesn't really do it justice, but I wanted to remember it
