And on Friday we found ourselves 2,000 feet from the Whitehouse sampling soil microbes in the Cherry tree groves on the National Mall as part of our National Park Service funded project on beneficial fungi and tree health…it was calm, quiet, and peaceful out there

As I was leaving DC yesterday with renewed hope about the promise of rising scientists and good news about my own career, I saw a woman walking down the street from USAID with a box of her belongings and my stomach just dropped.
