The #NewCanadaDrivingLaw2025 is fake. It’s anti-Carney, anti-Liberal propaganda. The feds have no jurisdiction to override provincial traffic laws. The Google AI results are a hallucination based on sketchy “media” websites. We need to question everything we read online. #onpoli #canpoli #fakenews

The City of Orillia was granted temporary strong mayor powers on April 3, 2025 to help the municipality respond to the ice storm that impacted the region in late March. These powers will become permanent on May 1, 2025....

We the undersigned members of Orillia City Council strongly oppose Mayor McIsaac’s request for “Strong Mayor Powers,” and his decision to use those powers to subvert and reverse the will of Council. We call on the Mayor and Minister Flack to rescind SMP immediately. #onpoli #Orillia

As #Orillia cleans up thanks go out to Hydro One, OPP, paramedics, tree service workers, essential workers...
Thanks to City staff working tirelessly at Emergency Operations and the Relief Centre to keep our vital systems running, and ensure that we get info and support

As the #Orillia powers up and cleans up, huge thanks are due to EVERYONE who checked on a senior, lent out a generator, fed a friend, donated essentials, picked up tree debris for a neighbour, restricted water use, or helped out in way.
Community is our strength.

#Orillia drinking water is safe.

While emergency repairs to the separate damaged sewage treatment plant are underway, all are asked to reduce water use:

Postpone laundry and dishwashing
Take shorter showers
Flush toilets only when necessary
Avoiding draining large amounts of water at once
April 3, 2025 at 1:58 PM
The City of #Orillia water is SAFE to drink, and there are no plans to cut off the drinking water supply.

Trees and power lines are down all over and there is no power in the entire City of Orillia. The City is asking that residents stay in their homes and stay off the roads. #Orillia #onstorm #icestorm

Good news Council update! On January 27th, Orillia Council unanimously supported a motion to make rental of the Council Chamber free for all local school boards and post-secondary schools. Early, meaningful civics education = lifelong engagement in democracy. #goodnews

Orillia City Council has sent a strong message to the Ford government that homelessness is a crisis, not a crime. We call on the province to work collaboratively to implement evidence-based solutions that uphold the rights, dignity, and safety of all members of our communities. #humanrights

On #NationalHousingDay, I stand among 71 Councillors against the use of the Notwithstanding Clause to clear encampments. Municipalities need resources and evidence-based solutions to address the humanitarian crisis of encampments — not the suspension of people's Charter rights.

All people have fundamental, inherent human rights.
I join municipal councillors from across Ontario in standing against the call to use the Notwithstanding Clause to respond to encampments.
We need evidence-based solutions that uphold the dignity and human rights of all.
