The Rice Museum of Rocks and Minerals in Hillsboro also has fossils and petrified wood. It's located in a fantastic mid century modern house. Well worth the trip across the river. I'm the current adoptive parent of a fossilized miniature camel skull.

I prefer the classic "who tends to be taller, and more likely to be too lazy to bother to use the metal push plates?"

@tmbg.bsky.social Hot cocoa, candy cane lovingly aged on the Christmas tree, TMBG mug. All is well, at least within the confines of the photo.

I was in Spain in 1978, and Rosalynn Carter did a TV interview in Spanish. My landlady was blown away that the wife of the most powerful person in the world made the effort to learn her language. Best foreign policy ever. RIP to the tiny Carters who made such a huge impact.

Our daughter was doing research at the Smithsonian American museum this week, and got to examine late 18th and early 19th century maps embroidered or drawn by women in England, Ireland, and the U.S. Very little of this is ever on display, because it's so fragile.

We've followed our children into being Tour de France fans, as well as the Spanish and Italian tours. Our family has accidentally switched for the summertime months.

What a treat, when you can leave the cabbage hammer in the drawer, and don't have to put on eye protection to make dinner.

The dogwood was here when we moved in almost 40 years ago. It seems very happy with the addition of the little free library, which has ducklings and encouragement to read banned books on the side.

We have a howler monkey that screams when you press his tummy. My daughters (both now in their 30s) used to hide him under each others' pillows when they were teenagers and delighted in putting him under houseguest's pillows. I'm 67.

I rarely get more specific than 'bird' or 'flower' in my identifications, so I very quietly shared the space with this little guy (whatever he is) while setting up for the egg hunt this past weekend.
