Before machines, we must acknowledge the true hero behind a giant fraction of scientific Nobel accolades: Parafilm.

And these hooligans! Certainly reviewing their crimes of the day and scheming evil plots for #warzone Chicago tomorrow.

The commute home at the end of the day through #warzone Chicago was miserable, too! Look at how many gang bangers are out. There was even a crowd out saying they “supported human rights” - surely their latest underhanded tactic, right?

Commute is over, whew! I’m so glad we have Fort Robie House nearby to keep us safe!

Gotta keep a lookout down Washington Ave. A mob may appear at any minute!

I don’t know how I managed to get past the infernos, but here I am getting ready to indoctrinate impressionable students to the commie pinko ways of nuclear magnetism. 🧲

Good morning #warzone Chicago! It’s a hellscape, here, I tell ya! No wonder everyone’s afraid to go downtown! Who will save us from this madness?

I think what you’re saying aligns well with the guidance provided by @onthemedia.bsky.social ‘s Breaking News Consumer’s Handbooks. Do you recommend these? Here’s the Terrorism Edition (couldn’t decide between this and the Active Shooter Edition)

We need more Dems like @katmabu.bsky.social . Guided by straightforward morality-guided positions (e.g., fascism is bad” and “Dems need to stand up and DO SOMETHING”), she’s appealing. Her Punks for Progress fundraiser in Chicago SOLD OUT! We need Punks for Progress everywhere!

Here’s another one for you: Every workday my bus passes this sign. There are a number of others like it around Chicago.

I almost forgot: the day I arrived last week, I saw this terrifying thing! In the dark of night, just outside my civilized hotel, there was this big mob of people by the street, ominous in its presence. All staring at the same thing: a movie in the park! Who will protect us from outdoor cinema?!??

Just got back from DC, where I greeted the Ronald Reagan Building, which apparently houses Customs and Border Patrol.

The horror!! 😱 I’m in Washington DC and I personally witnessed a large group of people outside, in the dark, at night, unbelievably close to my civilized hotel…
… watching movies in the park!! Egad! Someone call the National Guard to keep us safe from this audience!!

Will you be in Des Plaines this afternoon? The Des Plaines Theater is celebrating its 100th year with a variety of activities, including a short parade at 5:00. Other stuff st 4:00; too late now for the 2:00 silent film, though

Friday morning project: finally jettisoning a bunch of old, redundant, mostly yellowed NMR standards that’ve been cluttering up the lab. I bet some of these date back to the 1990s!

This fits with the apparent plan of cutting the NSF budget in half. It looks like the latest version of the budget bill kinda ignores 2025 and cuts overall NSF by 55.3%

This is no way to run a railroad. How do they just ignore 2025?

I don’t know what this is, but it’s between 4 and 5 feet tall and more keep springing up in the yard. I figure it’s probably a prairie native, and I’ll need to figure out a way to relocate them to better places in the beds

More fabulous posters at #standupforscience2025 in Chicago's Federal Plaza. The enthusiasm for science is real! Get barriers out of the way for scientists! They're just trying to make everyone's lives better by learning more about the universe and applying knowledge. #science #sciencenotsilence

Some excellent posters at #standupforscience2025! A dedicated and creative crowd, for sure! #science #sciencenotsilence #scienceforall

Despite the cold and oscillating snow/rain, THOUSANDS of people turned out at Chicago's #standupforscience2025! Including Senator @durbin.senate.gov and @schakowsky.house.gov. Gratifying and energizing to see so much support for #science! #sciencenotsilence #scienceforall
