Hee we are again with the squares. I started up a few weeks ago to practice various cable knits in anticipation of a cable project, which has turned out to be fairly easy so I might look at some cable pattern socks or a sweater in the future...

Haven't you updated on the knitting in a while: sweater vest is done! Despite testing the gauge beforehand, it's wildly off and more oversized than I planned, but I am very proud of everything I learned. Next projects are on a smaller scale: hat, socks, leg warmers.

The best is coming along well but I'm going to *b#@&h* a bit about patterns labeled as beginner that don't explain things that beginners don't know. This section of ribbing says to do 21 rows (this is 18). The photo incuded in the pattern shows a vest that clearly has maybe 12-14 rows, not 21? 🧵1/3

I took a knitting break for a bit due to having to restart/recast/frog the hem and ribbing of the sweater vest I'm working on no less than 15 times. In the meantime here is a cotton #crochet beret I finally got around to finishing and blocking.

Finished with the cable sample and this is my last knit square for a while. I am almost out of all the cotton yarn I have and I need to get started on the wool sweater vest I bought yarn for last year. 😁 #learningtoknit #beginningknitter

Finished that diamond pattern and have moved on to my first traditional cable. I'm running out of this soft cotton yarn, so that last one got finished with scraps. 😁. These are probably going to get used in a funky sweater vest, so I'm not too worried about mistakes, off color mixes. #learningtoknit

My knit squares have moved on to twist stitches and the start of learning to cable. I'm more appreciative of the stitch chart on these tricky patterns - the wrong side stitches really require following the charted layout. I've had to make a little cheat sheet for myself for left and right twists. 😁

I swear I'll eventually be posting something other than my knitting practice. Finished that woven panel square, not without several more mistakes. Leaving it as is, mistakes and all as a reminder that I won't be using that criss cross stitch again if I can help it.

Second snowfall this winter. Enjoying the pretty for now, thinking about what will happen when this turns to ice in neighboring communities.

Ok. I sucked it up and started over with some looser tension in my stitches. It's finally working. Still a PITA, but doable. Least fun pattern, ev-ah though. There is some satisfaction that after at least 10 starts I figured out how to make it work.

Is it fair that I've come to hate this particular woven stitch with its knit through the back loop pattern. First time I've thought about giving up on a learning swatch: my count has been off on a row about 8 times, the kthl stitch is *awful* to do on cotton yarn, & I can't get into a rhythm. Help.

So how's the knitting instruction going, you ask? Not bad. After the last very challenging one, I'm on to this mini bobble pattern which is a pretty simple set of yarn overs and stitch together moves. We are inching along through raised patterns, but I'm at least 6 squares away from my first cable.

We had about an inch of snow overnight in Central NC. First snow in about three years. I'll be enjoying the gorgeous refected light from the warmth of the house though, lol.
