I'm using the appropriate DK weight yarn...so is it maybe my tension? There is a gauge "21 sts and 31 rows = 4 inches in stockinette" which I am on track to be following but extrapolating from that gauge would also make the ribbing close to 3+ inches wide which seems *excessive*. 🥴

*Vest* It's just now dawned on me that I could have ended the ribbing sooner (or keep going) depending on size or preference, but the pattern makes no mention of this nor does it assign a suggested number of ribbing rows based on the size you are knitting for (s,m,l,xl, etc).

The brim is fairly stiff, so it just needed a little support while it dried. :) I was thinking cardboard, like a collar stay, until I remembered the pack of hoops I got a while back.

I'd consider giving it a go once I retire this summer. Too hectic right now to even post my own content most days.

I'm just fascinated by it right now. After trying to learn a long time ago it finally sort of "clicked" recently and I'm enjoying learning new techniques.
