The CA EJ movement lost a hero when Jesse Marquez passed on 11/3. He founded Coalition for a Safe Environment & fought to clean up the San Pedro Bay ports. Today, I came across these interviews. The loss is too fresh to listen now but someday I will. oralhistory.library.ucla.edu/catalog/2119...

The public can file complaints about the incident on the @southcoastaqmd.bsky.social web site, xappp.aqmd.gov/complaints/N.... Complaints may be used to issue Notices of Violation (NOVs) for violating the district's public nuisance regulation and other rules. NOVs may result in fines and orders.

The 5-minute averages of volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions peaked at 541.53 parts per billion at 11 p.m. at a monitoring location on the east border of the facility. Black carbon readings were slightly elevated, but local PM2.5 low-cost sensor readings didn't show much, if any, impact.

Several years ago @southcoastaqmd.bsky.social adopted a regulation (Rule 1180) that requires the refinery to monitor air quality at their fence line and post data on a website. You can see the data at elsegundo1180.com. 🧵

Trump EPA budget proposal would cut funding by 54%. If adopted, you'll be much more likely to be breathing, eating, and drinking toxic chemicals. What fun. theconversation.com/what-trumps-...

The arc of the truck driving universe is long, but it bends toward cleaner vehicles. Apologies to MLK notwithstanding, I still think it's true. It was a pleasure & honor to serve on the #ACTExpo sustainable fleets panel last week.

New study on impacts of extreme heat and air pollution on health insurance use. Documented impacts. Health insurers should be the strongest advocates for preventing climate change and improving air quality. www.milliman.com/en/insight/e...

Polluting industries are filing lots of lawsuits against EPA. Looks like they hope the agency will cave to their complaints. @nytimes.com, @propublica.org, @preetbharara.bsky.social, @thedailyshow.com, et al., need to let people know.

I don't see anyone else doing it, so I came up with a 5-point plan: (1) Tax billionaires; (2) reinstate Roe vs. Wade; (3) reverse Citizens United; (4) support science, research & education; (5) end our dependence on fossil fuels.

I’ve now received 2 false evacuation warnings from LA County Fire. Growing up, TV & radio stations constantly ran “This is an alert from the emergency broadcast system” tests. LACFD needs to get some practice in after this crisis passes.

In addition to helping those who've lost homes, please pay attention to air quality problems in the L.A. today. Last night in #PacificPalisades, highest PM2.5 I've ever seen. Stay indoors. Don't exercise. Check AQ on SCAQMD or AirVisual app, or LAUSD or OpenMap website. www.lausd.org/knowyourairn...

Air quality in California kind of sucks today. Yellow is unhealthy for sensitive groups. Orange is worse. Not much more fundamental than your right to breathe, but you may need to be careful doing that today. www.airnow.gov
