Wanted to try blocking in some shading in Sketchbook mobile, but I don't think it's the right app for the methods I'm thinking of. Color selections take longer to set up, the smudge brush isn't what I expected...
On one hand I'm trying something new, on the other hand I could've been done by now.

1 more week, 2 more episodes, and then I start cursing that there won't be 2 more, followed by more cursing about then waiting a year or so for season 3.

Then there's this one - the Domeaday Duplicator. Rather than capturing the video output from the player, it captures the raw signal read from the tape, and pumps it out as a MASSIVE audio file. That file takes time to decode to video, but the results are much cleaner.

My video hobby might be a case of "those are words" (that make no sense)...
Typically if you want to digitize old media, you might use a converter like this. It does its job, quick and maybe dirty. It records a video you can watch or upload immediately.
It gets a participation trophy.

I'm taking the influx of new & returning patrons as demand for more Mimi (and Daisy), and more they shall have! Just as soon as my brain gets its head out of its ass.

The composite output of the VCR is much softer, less detailed, and sometimes brighter than the RF signal on the tape.
The only reason I even have a composite capture is to help me line up the audio, which has to be captured separate from the video RF. (not so with laserdisc)
November 5, 2025 at 3:50 PM
The laserdisc has the sharpest image, but the differences between two captures of the VHS tape are striking. The second image is an RF capture of the tape, while the third is from the VCR's composite output.

Turning my attention to a Disney cartoon over the past few days, I'm amazed again. I'd planned on using the U.S. VHS to cover up a few subtitles on the Japanese laserdisc, only to find out the two used different film prints. Colors & brightness are quite different, for starters.

Coke used to be my go-to drink, but for years now I've been a Pepsi guy. Whenever that old craving hits me, though, I remember that there are much tastier alternatives.

...so I have no idea what my thc tolerance is. These could either be really fun, or really disappointing.

One thing that I haven't been able to get to in the comics, is how Aimee likes to have a bit of fun with her missing arm. Usually she takes it a bit too far.

The bars I was getting in Michigan were on a whole other level. I may have to get some when I'm visiting again in January. Maybe I'll even get to use the response I'd cooked up for when the cashier warns me about bars being $20 each and only sold whole - "oh wow... so you think I should buy two?"
October 20, 2025 at 3:13 PM
Well, this was disappointing.
Even marked down, I feel ripped off. There's just not enough filling to contribute much flavor.
The chocolate tastes excellent, though.

Days later, I'm THIS close to being able to stack 5 captures of one tape together, just to find out if stacking that tape with another will improve the image quality further.

I don't suppose I have any followers in Sweden, who might be willing to find a VHS tape for me?
Or who might already happen to have it and wouldn't mind parting with it?

Found some OLD sketches in my closet, including what might be my initial concepts for Rose!
Best guess, these are from 2009-2010

Whatever Morrigan had going on, where almost her entire tiddy could be out but still count as covered at the same time?
That needs to come back.

"The Next Day" portion of Daisy's long weekend is finally finished! Or, as finished as it's going to be.
Maybe I'll do the rest once I'm recharged, but for now I have other ideas to work on. Mary's Monster Month is coming up, after all...

Another example of how the French release of Winds of Change compares to the U.S. & Japanese releases.
The French version is noisier, but has much more consistent exposure levels.

Weeks ago I'd learned that Winds of Change was also released on VHS in Sweden, so of course I had to get more information.
Yesterday I received some pictures and a video that lead me to believe it might be the most visually complete release yet!
But or course there's a catch...

I'd think these clouds might be a factor, if it hadn't looked like this all day.

The exodus has begun.
Once award stickers have been placed, a lot of folks who didn't get one start to clear out, rather than deal with the traffic tomorrow.

Under better circumstances, my niece would be here. "In spirit" will have to do.
