I respect the notion of a “small Hall,” but prefer the idea of the Hall serving as a place that seeks to recognize the best - and most unforgettable - contributors of their time. I *want* to identify the players who were the best on the field - and don’t need apples-to-apples HOF standards to do so.

Starting pitchers are also getting treated like disposable juice boxes in the Icarus Era of pitching (max effort always - chase the sun until wings melt), making greatness harder to sustain. So, I care less about cumulative HOF stats than I do about peaks.

Some additional thoughts: Pedroia, Wright, and Felix (and Utley, to an extent) fall into an interesting realm of great peaks with precipitous declines. I recognize their steep descents are atypical for HOFers. But I’m increasingly uncomfortable with longevity precedents to frame votes.
