I remember being a little girl in Mrs. Polk’s chair. I don’t remember what the women talked about (mostly because I was tender-headed & stressed about the hot comb lol) but I do remember it feeling like a safe space. A place for joy, community, and real talk.

When I take my mom out in public, I always have the fear….what if today is a bad day?

One thing that makes the biggest difference is encountering people who are kind, and, even if they don’t understand, hold some so of sympathy.

I personally understand how difficult it is to care for those who are elderly and/or mentally unwell. Me choosing to be kind in the 30 minutes that they sat next to was free for me, but likely positively impacted the trajectory of their whole day. All it takes is one bad experience.
